Polyurethane Foams PU
Foam is a rigid cellular polyurethane of low specific gravvity with
predominatly closed cell structure. Cellular polyurethanes are specific
type of polymers produced from compounds containing active hydrogen
atoms. These may be either polyesters or polyether based polyols.
USES Polyurethane
foams have unique properties like high strength to weight ratio, low
thermal conductivity, low water vapour transmission, buoyancy and ideal
electrical properties.
Application and Other Characteristics Polyurethane
foams has a structural application in the construction of foam troop
shelters, foam buildings for barracks, hospitals etc., which can be
easily transported to remote areas.
Polyurethane foams is used in refrigeration/air conditioning in the form of Pipe Sections/Slabs.
The
high buoyancy of polyurethane foam accounts for its widespread use in
void filling in boats, ships, life boats and in making panels for
construction of floating air strips for helicopters.
Polyurethane
foams can withstand temperatures of upto 90°C. It is resistant to hot
bitumen, eg.,during the laying of roof insulating slabs and such kind
of behaviour prove its heat stability.
